It’s Spring!! This is my very favorite season! I know many parts of the country aren’t quite feeling like spring, but I am loving the mid 60’s weather and the green grass outside! And I can’t believe Easter is less than a week away! Today, I want to share a cute song that’s perfect to listen to around Easter time, Here Comes Peter Cottontail.

The song was first made popular by Gene Autry in 1950. It’s been a while since I’ve heard this, and I didn’t realize there are so many verses in the song. I’d recommend just picking a few verses to go over, if you’d like, or just teach the chorus. Here are the words to the chorus:
Here Comes Peter Cottontail (Steve Nelson & Jack Rollins)
Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin’ down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppin’, Easter’s on its way
You can pair it with a fun Easter book, like one of these:
- The Story of the Easter Bunny (Katherine Tegen)
- The Night Before Easter (Natasha Wing)
- Here Comes Peter Cottontail (Steve Nelson)
We added a craft to go along with the song. I took regular notebook paper and drew pictures of Peter Cottontail for the boys. On the top, I wrote “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” (you can see from my picture that the drawings don’t have to be perfect!). You could also use construction paper or stock paper for more durability.
The boys each got to decorate their pictures. We just used crayons, but you could also set up baskets of tissue paper and glue sticks for decorating. You could also decorate a few Easter eggs for Peter Cottontail to put in his basket. Don’t forget to glue a cotton ball on his tail!
Hope you are having a wonderful first week of spring!
