I believe every child is musical.
I am on a mission to give you all the tools you need to help your budding musicians!
Hi, I’m Kerrie! I am an elementary music teacher and a mom of two boys (a toddler and a preschooler). I received my bachelor of music in music education in 2008. Since then, I have worked as a substitute teacher, as a music teacher at a private Christian school, as a music teacher in a public charter school (teaching K-8th grade) and also as a music teacher for a public elementary school.
about learning by step
I started Learning by Step in 2013, shortly after my first son was born. At the time, I wasn’t able to find many music resources online for that age group. I knew finger plays and baby bounces were popular for babies, but I didn’t know where to find them. I was staying home with my new baby and thought it would be fun to share ways to make music with babies, toddlers, preschoolers and elementary aged children.
This blog is here to help encourage families to make music together. Maybe you are in a similar situation like I was, and are needing a little direction. I know it can be a little daunting, but I want to make that process a little easier for you!
Here are a few of the things I share on learning by step:
- listening lessons
- how to make sound stories
- movement activities
- steady beat practice
- finger plays and chants
- circle singing games
- easy homemade instruments
It doesn’t matter if you think you cannot sing, or you don’t feel very confident in your musical abilities. You can still have wonderful music making experiences with your children! I want you to be encouraged to make music, memories and more with your children!
I’m looking forward to sharing ideas with you!
